GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE NETWORK

The network 'Northwest Russia and the Nordic Area' was established in December 1998, in order to stimulate research on the Euro-Arctic region. The network involves prominent researchers as well as authorities and industries with a key role in Scandinavian relations towards Northwest Russia. The objective of the network is to promote and simplify exchange and collaboration between its participants.
In later years, several actors have expressed a distinct need of knowledge on Northwest Russia's future developments and importance to the Nordic countries, a strong interest in Northwest Russia's adjustment to its surrounding world, the integration, regionalisation, and transregionalisation of the northern European region. This distinct need for research is accentuated by the lack of information and knowledge about opportunities in the region, research on economy, military aspects and organised crime.
The seminar on May 18th is the first regular meeting.
